Tours of the Louvre are given by national museum guides. An hour and a half to discover the museum’s collections, whether it is your first visit or you are a regular museum-goer.
The introductory tour is the best option for a first visit since it gives you an overview of the museum’s most famous works. It is available in English.
Lecture tours (currently available in French only) delve into a specific theme of art history, a period, a genre or an artist from one or several of the museum’s departments.
This exhibition looks at how artists contributed to a growing disenchantment with war, a movement initiated at the turn of the nineteenth century during the Napoleonic campaigns.
A cultured artist, Eugène Delacroix (1798–1863) was also an attentive theatergoer, his curiosity kindled by the issues surrounding the revival of the French stage during the 1820s–30s.
